Engage (Do not carry over)

Through advocacy and outreach, we connect prospective riders, current bicyclists, and civic leaders.

Our aim is to create a more bicycle friendly, sustainable, and community-oriented Shenandoah Valley.

The Coalition is dedicated to creating a safer and more enjoyable transportation and recreational environment for cyclists.  SVBC’s 900+ members (and growing) represent citizens of all ages and lifestyles from neighborhoods throughout the Shenandoah Valley. We are building more accessible, efficient, environmentally friendly, and joyful ways of moving around our cities and valley through partnerships with government agencies and community organizations.

Examples of our advocacy and outreach span a broad range of activities:

  • Direct advocacy for greenways, protected bike lanes, and enjoyable Bike-Ped infrastructure.
  • Partnering with local school systems to ensure Safe Routes to School for children of all ages.
  • Sponsoring Bike-Walk Summits for Harrisonburg-Rockingham and Staunton-Augusta-Waynesboro, bringing together activists, cyclists, and government officials to share inspiring examples of transportation infrastructure.
  • Partnering with the Shenandoah National Park to improve park policies for easy and safe bicycle access.
  • Long-term partnership building with local governments through the creation of Bicycle & Pedestrian Plans and citizen-led Bicycle Advisory Committees.

Everyone deserves a voice in how their communities are planned, built, and enjoyed. Through our campaigns, we help local residents make their voices heard by their elected and government officials.

SVBC works hard for excellent bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure, and we need your voice!
