Birding Bicycle Ride, Sunday, April 20, 8:00 am, from Wildwood Park in Bridgewater
On Sunday, April 20, the regular Sunday morning ride that usually leaves from Dogwood Dr. will be a Birding Bike Ride from Wildwood Park in honor of Earth Day. Everyone welcome!

Combine birding, cycling and enjoying Mother Earth in honor of Earth Day. noname

The ride is about 18 miles (including about 4 miles of gravel road). With numerous stops for bird viewing, it is anticipated the route will take about 3 to 4 hours. After initial bird viewing in Wildwood Park, the ride will head toward Mt Solon along Mossy Creek where we may see herons & kingfishers. We’ll then turn north heading to the North River and Spring Creek. Perhaps we’ll take a quick detour to the lowlands on Nazarene Church Rd, where, if it’s been a wet spring, we may sight sandpipers & other water loving birds. We’ll continue along country roads to Montezuma keeping our eyes open for hawks, kingbirds, swallows, bluebirds, meadowlarks and various sparrows. The return to Bridgewater will be along the North River.

Although there are many flat & rolling sections, there are numerous short hills. All participants should have well-maintained bicycles & bodies to enjoy the ride. Other required equipment includes a helmet, water bottle & snack. Of course binoculars are suggested, & a safe way to carry them. The ride will be cancelled if it is raining. Check the Shenandoah Valley Bicycle Coalition website calendar for updates.

There will be a group riding from Harrisonburg to Wildwood Park leaving at 7:15 am.
