Bicycle Repair Stations on Skyline Drive- Donate Today

May 22, 2016 Updates 0

The Shenandoah National Park has seen a rise in the number of cyclists along the Skyline Drive. With low speed limits, endless climbs (many that aren’t too steep) and countless scenic pull offs, the Skyline Drive can be an amazing place to ride your bicycle. In order to make the experience even better for cyclists, the Park would like to install four permanent bicycle repair stands along the drive. To reach this goal, the park reached out to the Shenandoah National Park Trust for help with raising funds to purchase durable and sturdy repair stands complete with tools and pump. DONATE NOW to make this a reality.

From the Shenandoah National Parks Trust:

Cycling is a great way to feel good and embrace the natural beauty of your surroundings. Shenandoah National Park offers 105 miles of road to ride in the Blue Ridge Mountains along Skyline Drive. You can take in the magnificent views, see wildlife, and find out why Shenandoah is your park.

This project will purchase and install bicycle servicing stations at four areas in the park: Elkwallow (mile 24), Skyland (mile 41.7), Big Meadows (mile 51), and Loft Mountain (mile 79.5). The service stations would include all the tools necessary to perform basic bike repairs and maintenance from changing a flat to adjusting brakes.

These all-weather units are in place on many college campuses and metropolitan areas, and now will be added to your park to allow easier and safer bike travel along Skyline Drive. These stations will allow riders to repair their own minor bike problems and then continue on to enjoy the park.hanging-bike-large

By becoming a part of this project, you can join the community of supporters, cyclists, hikers, backpackers, and nature enthusiasts that all identify Shenandoah National Park as THEIR park.

This project is not possible without your help! Thank you for your contribution, and for helping fulfill our efforts to enhance green, safe travel and exploration in Shenandoah National Park.

Remember: Bike Safely – Share the road, bike in small groups, wear a helmet and flashing light.
