Northend Greenway to Begin Construction!

September 20, 2018 Updates 0

You’ve been waiting, hoping and dreaming for an off-road trail connection to link downtown Harrisonburg to the north end of town and Eastern Mennonite University. We are VERY excited to share the news that construction of the Northend Greenway will break ground in early winter 2019! See below from the City of Harrisonburg

It is with great pleasure that the City of Harrisonburg announces the execution of a comprehensive agreement authorizing construction of phase I of the long-anticipated Northend Greenway.  The Northend Greenway is envisioned to connect the northern part of the City to downtown on a bicycle and pedestrian dedicated facility.  Phase I of the greenway will begin near the railroad tracks on Mount Clinton Pike, and end at Suter Street.  It will be approximately 0.6 miles long and will be accompanied by the restoration of Blacks Run, adjacent to the path.  The project is scheduled to complete construction this spring.  Additional information about the Northend Greenway can be found at the City website.

This project is in progress! The city has signed a design build contract with Momentum Earthworks to build the NEG trail as well as restore the portion of Blacks Run parallel to the trail. We are currently reviewing the 30% plans and we expect the construction plans to be completed by February. Construction should begin shortly after that and we hope to have the trail open to the public by the end of next summer.
