Safe routes to schools, work, stores, and home create connected communities.
The Shenandoah Valley Bike Coalition is committed to building safe routes for human-powered transportation that connects our cities, towns, and rural countrysides.
We support the following outreach and advocacy initiatives:
- Launching Safe Routes to School programs in our local school systems, restoring the freedom and confidence of children to walk and bike to school.
- Manage the Connect Our Schools initiative to build a connected network of Greenways and Shared Use Paths to make schools accessible by bike and foot to surrounding neighborhoods.
- Recruit Coalition volunteers to sit on the Transportation Advisory Boards and Planning Commissions of area localities, ensuring that bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure is included on long-term infrastructure planning.
- Work with regional stakeholders such as the Shenandoah National Park to ensure bicycle access and safety considerations.
