Outside Looking In
Hello !
My name is Julie Rae Powers and I am guest “blogging” for the Friendly City Grand Prix. For those of you who don’t know me I recently graduated from JMU with a degree in photography. I am relatively new to cycling. I commute a little bit and still ride the easy trails at Hillandale. That doesn’t mean I have the fever any less than the rest of you though… I had a temporary job at Shenandoah Bicycle Company making smoothies for PULP! A lot of you are going “Ohhh, that is where I know that girl from!” SBC fueled my interesting in cycling and that is where I learned about the Friendly City Grand Prix. I missed the first couple of events but I knew I had to see one before it was over and I definitely wanted to photograph it. Tuesday I went out to Ramblewood Park to see what all the fuss was about. I arrived a little bit late but I was lucky because the race was just about the start. Sue Haywood pointed to a couple of good spots to post up for great shots so that is exactly what I did. The event was interesting to watch but interesting in a good way. The most exciting part was to watch everyone jump off their bikes, skip over the barriers, and get back on in such fluid motions. The event was so fun to watch because the riders were intense but were still just there to have fun. An added bonus was the great weather and watching the sun start to set over a golden field. What’s not to love? Here are a few photographs from the race:
It was such a pleasure to be able to photograph this event. If you haven’t watched one you should!
