Tonight! April 29 Please attend a Transportation Public Hearing
The Commonwealth Transportation Board is holding a public hearing tonight to give citizens the opportunity to review and provide comments on projects and programs to be included in the Fiscal Year 2015-2020 Six-Year Improvement Program, including highway, rail and public transportation initiatives.
This meeting is especially important for Rockingham County Residents and the County’s roadways. Since VDOT manages Rockingham Counties roadways, funding priorities and projects are not the decision of the Rockingham County Board of Supervisors alone. This is our opportunity to tell the state of Virginia that we want to see meaningful investment in bicycle and pedestrian transportation options in our region.
The public hearing for citizens in our region will start at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at the Rockingham County Administration Center at 20 East Gay Street in Harrisonburg Virginia. Written comments may also be submitted during the hearing, or they may be mailed or e-mailed afterwards to: Six-YearProgram@vdot.virginia.
What does all of this mean? Here is a good summary of the process and how the state of Virginia determines transportation spending priorities.
We urge cyclists to attend the meeting to learn about bicycle projects that are included in the plan, and to speak out in favor of dedicated funding for bicycle projects in the City of Harrisonburg and Rockingham County. Please be as specific as possible in terms of what projects you want to see added to VDOT’s 6 year improvement schedule. Or what programs and policies you want to see changed, added, or stopped.
